Love Hvar wine but flying home? Some reasons to visit the Split Airport Duty Free shop.
One of the many inconveniences about the change in regulations of modern air travel is the restriction on carrying bottles of wine as hand luggage. I have lost count of the number of people who have fallen in love with the wine on Hvar on holiday, but are flying home and so cannot take their new discoveries back to their homes to share with their friends.
Help is at hand in the form of the Duty Free Shop at Split Airport!
Waking through the other day, I was looking for some gifts for my hosts in Munich and came across the wine section. Problem solved! Two of the finest wine ambassadors of the island were calling out to me from the shelves. I picked up a bottle of the Ivan Dolac Barrique 2008, a meaty organic red (indeed the first certified organic Plavac Mali in Croatia back in 2003) from PZ Svirce, which has just won gold medal at Biofach Mundu Vini for the second year running.
And for the lady, what could be better than a bottle of the fabulous Herktovic prosek? A perfect combination.
There were other wines from PZ Svirce and a couple from Zlatan Otok as well, so if you are keen to take home some of your summer Hvar wine memories, make sure you pop into the duty free at the airport.
