I have never been into sailing, so it is not so easy for me to understand the way the growing number of sailors to Hvar view the island. That changed a little last summer when an old school friend I had not seen for 25 years sailed into Stari Grad. I enjoyed catching up and giving him advice about the island – things to see, things to try, and the subject came round to wine.
“Come with me,” I said, and walked him from his boat to the delightful Caric Wine Shop just off the waterfront (next to the red building in the picture below), located in one of Stari Grad’s many delightful squares.
And inside, the range of Ivo Caric from Svirce, one of the rising stars of the Dalmatian wine scene. My friend was impressed, bought a few bottles and reported back favourably th next day.
The good news for sailors to Stari Grad (and everyone else) is that the Caric Wine Shop is now open for the season, from 1600 – 2200 daily. Apart from the great wines, Caric also sells various other locally produced treats from small suppliers.
