June the 24th, 2023 – New Croatian temporary driving licenses are now being considered by Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic and other powers that be.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Minister of the Interior Davor Bozinovic recently stated that after a serious accident took place at the so-called car meet in Buzin last weekend, he is thinking about introducing new Croatian temporary driving licenses, aimed at young drivers.
There’s always room for improvement when it comes to traffic safety
Bozinovic said that increasing traffic safety across the country is a very important issue in which there is always room for improvement, and MUP is in constant contact with the profession and associations that bring together motoring enthusiasts, writes N1.
He said that the introduction of a Croatian temporary driving license for young drivers is among the topics being discussed. “If they don’t accumulate a certain number of negative points in a certain time period, then they could acquire the conditions for obtaining a permanent one,” said Bozinovic of the idea.
The education of young drivers is of paramount importance
He added that when a road accident occurs, the first reaction is always to increase repression and punishment. But this doesn’t actually achieve the goal, which is primarily to educate young people, according to Bozinovic.
The young driver, 23-year-old Jan Ehrlich, ended up in pre-trial detention on Sunday after he lost control of his expensive Mercedes in the parking lot of the Supernova shopping centre in Buzin late on Friday evening. He tragically hit another car and pedestrians at the meet up.
He is being charged with causing a traffic accident which resulted in serious bodily injuries.
