September 22, 2023 – New Zagreb roadworks started yesterday to fix the Većeslav Holjevac Avenue in Novi Zagreb. Despite some announcements about a traffic collapse, there were no crowds on the roads yesterday. The part where the works are ongoing is from Islandska to Nežićeva Street.
Although the road is formally closed, cars continue to drive southbound on the Avenue where work has not yet begun, writes Index.
For the duration of the works, access to Podbrežje settlement and the gas station on the Avenue is possible from the north side. When the works reach that part of the road, Podbrežje will be accessible from the south side of the Avenue.
This part of the roadworks in Zagreb should last until October 21, and the road should be open at four in the morning that Saturday. Pedestrians and cyclists can still use the road freely, as the sidewalk and bike path are not closed.
No Traffic Jams on Zagreb Roadworks Detour Routes
The detour for the New Zagreb roadworks goes via Islandska and Ulica SR Njemačke, which connects to Avenija Većeslava Holjevca in the south. So far, there have been no crowds or traffic jams, and there seems to be no significant increase in traffic density.
The City of Zagreb administration suggests another detour route to avoid excessive congestion of Islandska Street: from the north on Avenija Većeslava Holjevca, across Avenija Dubrovnik and SR Njemačke towards the south.
Heavy traffic was expected on Ulica Savezne Republike Njemačke, but there were no queues or traffic jams yesterday. It was just the first day, though, and things could get a bit slower and more dense in the next month or so for the duration of the works.
New Bus Routes
Due to the works, new temporary routes of bus lines 268 (Main station – Velika Gorica), 310 (Main station – Petrovina), 311 (Main station – Cerovski Vrh), 313 (Main station – Vukomerić), and 330 (Main station – Velika) were introduced).
