Of all the topics I write about in Croatia, this is the one which is least popular and attracts the most negative criticism, but if I wanted to be popular, I would not have started a news portal in Croatia…
People pay way too much tax in Croatia, a trend which has little sign of reversing in the current economic climate, but there is one area where not only is the tax very low, it is also extremely unfair on fellow taxpayers in non-tourist areas.
A nice loophole is being used by many on the coast in tourist rental property which is having a significant effect on the economy and the apatmentalisation of the coast, while doing little in job creation or tax revenues.
The number of private accommodation beds in Croatia has risen from 400,000 in 2010 to over a million today.

To be clear, this video is not advocating more tax, rather fairer tax.
