October 12, 2023 – Croatia has been working towards extending its tourist season. So far, July and August have been the record months. This year, however, the unusually warm weather all throughout September and even the first half of October must have helped. According to the Croatian eVisitor system, there were 472,498 guests in commercial accommodation in central Dalmatia in September of this year, who accounted for 2.35 million overnight stays. This year’s late summer season in Split was a dream come true for many.
An increase of 18 percent in arrivals and six percent in overnight stays was achieved in the Split-Dalmatia County in commercial accommodation in September, writes Poslovni. A record 472,498 guests spent their late summer season in Split-Dalmatia, and county tourist boards reported 2.35 million overnight stays.
Thus, a record tourist traffic was achieved in September compared to the best pre-pandemic years. Compared to September 2019, specifically, in the Split-Dalmatia County, in September of this year, there were almost eight percent more overnight stays and nine percent more arrivals.
Split saw the most significant change in the sense of expansion, having counted 130,488 arrivals and 385,377 overnight stays. Compared to the same month last year, this is a growth of 24 percent in arrivals and 12 percent in overnight stays.
With 38,250 arrivals and 222,026 overnight stays in September, Makarska followed, achieving an increase of 21 percent in arrivals and eight percent in overnight stays. Baška Voda, Omiš and Seget followed Makarska with their numbers.
Guests from Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic were the traditional key players, spending the most significant number of nights in Croatia this late summer.
Rijeka Just as Happy
In other news, Rijeka had a significant increase in an important aspect of tourism, as 18 cruise ships sailed into the city this year. And 30 have already been announced for next year. And the tourist results in general have been getting better and better for Rijeka, writes Dnevnik. “On September 21, we reached the total tourist traffic from last year, which was also a record for the city of Rijeka,” said Antonia Kardum from the Tourist Board of the City of Rijeka.
