November the 2nd, 2023 – Over the next five months, some 8000 new trees are set to be planted across the City of Zagreb, according to the latest announcements from the mayor.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, 8,000 trees will be planted across the capital in the next five months, announced Mayor Tomislav Tomašević, who held a press conference at the Markuševec nursery. The plan to plant these new trees will involve 46 different types of seedlings, and the City of Zagreb intends to pay about four million euros for the entire project.
Eight thousand trees means that we’ll have one new tree for every 100 inhabitants in the City of Zagreb this season. We’re going to continue this pace next season as well. Honey maple will be the most represented species that we will plant, but there will also be ash, black pine, and ornamental cherry trees, which I believe will make many people happy. Of course, these will primarily be planted along city avenues and main roads, as well as in green areas, especially in parks where there were no trees or there weren’t enough trees,” explained the mayor.
Birches and poplars, which are allergenic species, will not be planted, and it is possible that some existing trees will be replaced by other species.
