Domestic Tourist Numbers Increasing on Croatian Tourism Scale

November the 13th, 2023 – On the grand Croatian tourism scale, the share of domestic tourists from across Croatia has increased significantly.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Danica Grskovic writes, domestic tourists from various locations across this country achieved 235 thousand arrivals and 650 thousand overnight stays during the month of September. This represents 13.8% more arrivals and 8.1% more overnight stays compared to back during September 2022.

Foreign tourists achieved 2.2 million arrivals and 10.9 million overnight stays during that same month this year, which is equal to 15.5% more arrivals and 3.7% more overnight stays when compared to September 2022.

The Germans proved their loyalty yet again

Among the share of foreign tourists visiting Croatia, the most overnight stays were realised by visitors from Germany (accounting for 33.1% of all foreign overnight stays), followed by guests from Austria (10.8%), Poland (7.5%), neighbouring Slovenia (6.5%), and the Czech Republic ( 5.6%).

Compared to the numbers recorded for September 2022, there are 1.9% more rooms, apartments and places for camping open in Croatia this year. Average occupancy rates for September 2023 stood at 39.6%, while in September 2022, that figure amounted to slightly less – 38.8%.

An increase of local tourists for Croatian tourism as a whole

Throughout the first nine months of this year, domestic tourists realised a total of 7.1 million overnight stays, which is an increase of 3.9 percent. On the other hand, foreign visitors realised 80.5 million overnight stays, resulting in a total increase of 2 percent compared to the first nine months of last year.

Among foreign tourists, those from Germany once again accounted for the most numerous, making up as much as 26.6% of the total number of nights spent in Croatia by foreign tourists. The Germans were closely followed by overnight stays by tourists from Slovenia (9.1%), Austria (9.0%), Poland (7.8%), the Czech Republic (6.2%) and Italy (4.7%).
