May the 8th, 2024 – HDZ and Domovinski Pokret (Homeland Movement) have come to an agreement – here are the details surrounding the new Croatian Government.
As Jutarnji list writes, HDZ leader and current technical government leader Andrej Plenković has confirmed something many have been waiting for. In negotiations with Homeland Movement (Domovinski Pokret), HDZ has agreed that three portfolios should belong to that party, including demography, which is why a new ministry is now being established.
“An agreement has been reached, three portfolios are going to DP. We’re establishing a new ministry – the Ministry of Demography. This is a key issue and that is why we’re the first at the EU level to introduce such a ministry,” Plenković said of the new Croatian Government.
“The second department we’re set to give them is the Ministry of Agriculture, since DP is particularly strong in Slavonia. The third is to split the Ministry of Economy in half. We didn’t talk about any ministry names, and the member of the government who is the minister of demography will also be the deputy prime minister. This government will have more ministries than the last one, which had 18 members,” Plenković said.

Plenković was asked how many minority signatures the new Croatian Government will receive.
“All 61 who were selected on the HDZ and DP lists, and there are 13 of them. We’ll see how many signatures are needed. Maybe there will be two, three or four,” confirmed Plenković.
Regarding raising the salaries of the ministers, he says that it wasn’t just a proposal by Marija Radić, but that they had it in their plans because the assumptions had already been made for it.

It is also now known who will be the vice-presidents of the Parliament from the ruling majority.
“One vice president will be from DP, and the other from the minority quota. We’re working, negotiating and celebrating. Give us a day to agree on the names,” Plenković asked, before asking those who refuse to cooperate with HDZ to actually explain what the problem is.
“The elections are now over, at least this one is. People are afraid to work with us because of media pressure. That’s what it has all come down to. This is already the third mandate and this is unhealthy. We need to talk about where Croatia is today. Never had we had higher wages and never have we held a stronger international position,” explained Plenković.
As for the new ministers in the new Croatian Government, he stated that there will be room for Marija Vučković and Damir Habijan.
