Croatia heritage teams up with Croatian technology.
The Museum Portal of the Croatian Museum Association, which allows quick online search of all events in museums and galleries in Croatia, will demonstrate that museums are not boring, but a dynamic and pleasant venue for visitors – that was the message sent at the presentation of the Portal at the Mimara Museum in Zagreb, reports Tportal on October 25, 2015.
“We are still fighting the prejudices that museums are boring, and the Museum Portal proves that this is not so”, Danko Dujmović, one of the editors of the Portal, said at the presentation. “Portal shows that museums can be a place for a pleasant stay, where visitors of all ages can create, learn through fun and games, and begin discovering the importance of heritage”, he added. He explained that the website was launched nearly a year ago with a goal of improving communication between museums and visitors, but also in order to help teachers plan visits to museums with their students.
The portal has been available to the public since December last year, when it was launched in cooperation with about a dozen museum institutions from the Zagreb area, but in the past year it has been joined by museums from other parts of Croatia as well. To date, there are 53 registered museums which offer more than 140 activities, creative and thematic workshops, guided tours, lectures, screenings, presentations and other events for visitors of different ages, from pre-school children to retirees.
Jelena Hotko, one of the editors, said that the Museum Portal is the best proof that museum staff is hard at work throughout the year, that museums are current and that educators in museums try to customize the museum content in ways which make it more accessible to general public. “I believe this is one of those platforms for which we will one day ask ourselves how we ever managed without it. We have already received great response from museum professionals and users, and our wish is to eventually include all the galleries, museums and heritage institutions in Croatia”, Hotko said.
The project was implemented in cooperation with museum educators and other museum professionals. It is intended primarily for teachers and preschool educators in order to make visits to museums easier to include in school and kindergarten curricula, but also for all potential museum visitors. As a website, it can be accessed at muzejski-portal.hrmud.hr, while the news are published on social networks, Facebook and Twitter.
