August the 28th, 2024 – Ploče Port is continuing on its sustainable development path, with business transparency taking precedence throughout 2023.

As Morski writes, Ploče Port in southern Dalmatia has clearly remained loyal to its ongoing mission of sustainable business and transparent reporting, as can be seen in its second Report on Sustainable Development for 2023.

Ploče Port has also further strengthened its role in the community by supporting local initiatives, launching a number of socially useful projects, and making significant investments in sponsorships and donations.

These commendable activities include the continuous support for the development of sport, especially among children and young people, through projects such as the sailing school. Ploče Port is also dedicated to promoting gender equality and inclusiveness, ensuring that all employees have equal opportunities for advancement, with full respect for the principles of equality and non-discrimination.

Good working conditions, employee health and safety, and continuous education and skills development are also duly recognised as key priorities in ensuring a sustainable working environment.

“Our second Sustainability Report clearly demonstrates our continued commitment to sustainable development and the concrete steps we’re taking to ensure a better tomorrow for all of our employees, the community and the environment. By investing in green technologies and improving our infrastructure, we’re working hard to reduce our impact on the environment and strengthen our role as a reliable community partner,” said Hrvoje Livaja, President of the Management Board of Ploče Port.

Ploče Port also recorded otherwise significant traffic and good management with a total of 4,779,698 tonnes of cargo transported in 2023. Among the key achievements here, investments in green technologies stand out the most. These include the completion of the first 20 kW photovoltaic power plant and the 803 kW power plant, which is currently waiting to be connected to the grid.

Ploče Port also plans to continue its significant investments in renewable energy sources and modern port machinery, all with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the long term.

It’s also worth mentioning that as part of a project called “Improving the public services of the Ploče Port Authority through the implementation of 5G connectivity”, Ploče Port will become the first ever Croatian 5G port. This project, worth 1.27 million euros in total, will enable process automation and advanced data management, which will additionally improve operations and reduce emissions.
