October the 11th, 2024 – Croatian-Ukrainian cooperation is set to deepen following the recent summit in Dubrovnik. From energy to cyber security, here’s what the long-term cooperation and support agreement involves.

As Mladen Miletic/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the agreement on long-term Croatian-Ukrainian cooperation and support signed in Dubrovnik on Wednesday encompasses a lot. The agreement, signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, formalises the previous cooperation activities between the two countries. That regards Croatian aid to Ukraine, which has so far amounted to around 300 million euros, as well as eleven packages of military aid.

“Croatia and Ukraine have reiterated their strongest condemnation of Russia’s unprovoked, unjustified and illegal current war of aggression against Ukraine and its temporary occupation of the state territory of Ukraine, which is a clear violation of international law, including the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final Act and the Paris Charter,” it reads in the text of the recently signed Croatia-Ukraine cooperation agreement.

The Croatian-Ukrainian cooperation agreement emphasises that Croatia has stood firmly by Ukraine since the beginning of Russian aggression and will continue to do so “until Ukraine prevails”. “Since February 2022, Croatia has provided a total of around 300 million euros in economic, financial, humanitarian, development and other aid to Ukraine. This also includes eleven military aid packages. “Croatia will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine in accordance with national legislation and constitutional requirements,” the agreement states.

The text of the Croatian-Ukrainian cooperation agreement states that both nations have confirmed that they will continue to strengthen their existing cooperation by fulfilling bilateral and long-term commitments in a number of areas. Those include political, economic and financial areas, security assistance and cooperation, humanitarian area, energy, reconstruction, recovery and development, law, and in the fields of science, technology, culture, sport and youth issues.

“Participants will work together and with international partners to ensure Ukraine’s capabilities and resilience to defend itself and deter any possible future aggression. The Republic of Croatia will continue to provide military aid, building on the eleven military aid packages already adopted since the beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine”.

The Croatian-Ukrainian cooperation agreement also states that both countries will exchange experiences and lessons learned in order to develop their cyber security and cyber defence capabilities, as well as to improve their cyber resilience and the protection of critical infrastructure.
