November the 6th, 2024 – CNN has listed the award-winning Zagreb Advent among Europe and beyond’s best Christmas fairs to visit this year.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Christmas is now rapidly approaching and along with it come the much loved Christmas markets that will be available to visit all over Europe. CNN recently published a list of the best Christmas markets to visit and included the award-winning Zagreb Advent on the list, alongside the likes of London and Vienna.
CNN pointed out that the tradition of Christmas fairs in Europe is very long and dates all the way back to the year 1298, when the first fair of this type was held in the Austrian capital city of Vienna. This festive tradition has since spread all over Europe and indeed the rest of the world, and choosing the absolute best is quite difficult considering that some fairs have become so popular that they have become tourist attractions in their own right.
It’s safe to say that Zagreb Advent, which won the European Best Destinations poll for the best Christmas market for three consecutive years, is among those which have made a global name for themselves.

CNN absolutely showered praise on the events of Zagreb Advent. They say it is very easy to understand why it was declared “the best destination for a Christmas market” three years in a row in an online poll by the European Best Destinations portal.
They explain that there are 25 Christmas markets spread all over the Croatian capital city and that they all create a truly “magical scene”.
They were particularly impressed by the living nativity scene, carved ice structures, outdoor concerts, pop up bars and the Christmas tram with Santa Claus and his elves. Also of note for CNN were Zagreb Advent’s now traditional “Fuliranje” where people full of festive cheer can be found fooling around (as the name suggests in Croatian) dancing in the street while eating Christmas food and warming up with mulled wine.
The other Christmas fairs CNN recommends in Europe are in London, Vienna, Edinburgh, Krakow, Budapest, Berlin, Stockholm, Tallinn, Prague, Florence, Copenhagen, Bratislava and Brussels. Outside of Europe, the recommendations are Toronto, Chicago, New York and Singapore.
