Meanwhile, a story has emerged about a moment from his previous visits to Croatia. Krešo, the owner of a tavern on the uninhabited island of Mrčara near Lastovo, told a YouTuber who posts on a channel called Petar Vloga exactly what happened.
Two years ago, during a visit to Croatia, the well known Amazon founder and his friends tried to get a table by skipping the line to have dinner at the tavern. However, the owner refused them, explaining that the same rules apply to all guests, it didn’t matter who he was.
He said that Jeff Bezos’ agent called the tavern at 23:30 and that Bezos was with Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Usher, Derek Blasberg and Scooter Braun. They were anchored off the coast and wanted to book a table for eight people the next day at 17:00.
“I told them; “Thank you very much for your interest, but you need to call 7 to 8 days in advance to get food and a table here. In this way, you’ll be able to get a table from 16:00-17:00 and can only get drinks, because we have other reservations,” the owner said.
“They didn’t get food, not because we didn’t want to serve them, but because we stick to our principles and we stick to our regular guests. New guests who come here need to have booked earlier. It would be stupid to violate our principles because someone’s name is ‘Jeff Bezos’ or ‘Orlando Bloom.’ All our guests are the same and treated equally regardless of who they are, so we had to refuse them food, he had to look for that somewhere else, but we politely entertained him with our drinks,” he added.
“But regardless of the fact that they didn’t get the service they wanted, they had peace for the next hour and were treated like all the other guests, nobody crowded them or took pictures of them. When they were leaving, his agent told us that Jeff said that this was the highlight of the holiday of his entire summer in Croatia that year,” the tavern owner said.
