July the 14th, 2025 – An Irish TikToker hasn’t held back on her impressions of various areas of coastal Dalmatia, referring to Split as insufferable.
Every year, there’s plenty of criticism for Croatia from foreign visitors. With the ease of making information available and even viral owing to the likes of social media, particularly TikTok, that criticism is now easier to stumble upon.
As Morski writes, a young Irish traveller recently took to social media to share her experience from a recent trip to Croatia, specifically to Split and the famed island of Hvar.
The Irish traveller and TikToker admitted without embellishment that one part of her break in Croatia completely disappointed her. Right at the beginning of the video, she emphasised: “I would have simply skipped Split.”
She explained that her arrival in the Dalmatian capital was a very unpleasant surprise. “The city is small, and the crowds are too big,” she said, adding that the atmosphere was too intense for her taste: “It was almost insufferable. Split was already overcrowded in June, when it was not yet the peak season. We spent three days there, but one would have been enough.”
In her opinion, Split is too expensive and suitable only as a starting point for excursions, whether to national parks, nearby beaches or boat trips to the nearby islands.
Unlike Split, the nearby island of Hvar was a much more pleasant experience for the Irish Tiktoker. She stayed there for 12 days, which surprised many, but she admitted that 10 days would have been more than enough time on the world famous island.
“For the last two days [on Hvar] we didn’t know what to do. I definitely recommend the boat trips – we did two and they were great. But don’t go to the Blue Cave. It’s really not worth the money,” the Irish traveller concluded on TikTok.
