April the 1st, 2026 – The European Commission (EC) is set to approve a massive 869.9 million euros in grants and loans to Croatia.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, on Monday, the EC disbursed the eighth tranche of the Recovery and Resilience Facility to Croatia, amounting to 869.9 million euros in the form of both grants and loans.
With this disbursement, Croatia has so far received 73% of the total allocation of 10 billion euros (5.8 billion euros in grants and 4.2 billion euros in loans), with 62% of all crucial objectives and milestones under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan having now been met.
The disbursement follows the EC’s approval of Croatia’s eighth request for payment under the EU’s next generation instrument back in early February. The EU found that Croatia had so far satisfactorily achieved six milestones and eleven targets set out within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Croatia officially submitted its eighth payment request to the EC on the 15th of December last year based on the fulfilment of all seventeen envisaged reform and investment indicators in the areas of economy, energy, water management, transport, agriculture, public administration, justice and digitalisation, the labour market and pension system, science, healthcare and construction.
Measures linked to this very large payment include improvements in general access to healthcare, sustainable financing, innovative mobility, water management, sustainable agriculture and the fight against corruption and organised crime.
The latter will likely take much more time than anyone could possibly anticipate in Croatia’s very specific case.
