A new water attraction for the island of Krk.
At the headquarters of the Catholic Diocese of Krk, a land lease agreement has been signed between the representatives of the GP Krk company and the Church, owner of the land which should be used for the constitution of an impressive aqua-park. In the next few years, on the 30-hectare plot of land next to the entrance to the town of Krk, recreational and entertainment complex is expected to be built, a combination of popular amusement parks like Gardaland and well-known spas like Terme Čatež, reports Novilist on November 25, 2015.
Although the agreement is only the first step on the long road to the final implementation of the project, the parties to the agreement confirmed that they consider the project to be mutually beneficial and important for the future development of the island. “The provisions of the agreement clearly indicate that the implementation of the plan will guarantee the future of this island”, Franjo Velčić, representative of the Catholic Church, said. “We expect that this neglected land will be turned into a sustainable development project. It is a project that will give to all residents of this city and of the island a new economic future which will enable them to make decent living, while young people will be able to stay living on their island”, Velčić concluded.
The project worth as much as 70 million euros envisages the construction of the complex in the area called Kokoreče. The attractive aqua-park will include at least four acres of indoor swimming pool area, as well as several outdoor swimming pools, and more than ten hectares of area with entertainment facilities like rollercoasters and similar features common to amusement parks.
The Krk project should bring a million new overnight stays to Krk and generate an annual turnover of about 50 million euros. The project will be cost-effective and viable for investors only if they also receive the right to build a larger camp on the other part of the island. Only that would make the huge investment in this project sustainable, so that element will decide whether the project will ever be implemented. However, all the parties have expressed their satisfaction with the support shown by the city and county authorities and are optimistic that in a few years Krk will have the largest and the most attractive facility of its kind in Croatia.
