Will MOST be kicked out of parliamentary majority?
Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić, whose party is a member of the ruling coalition in Parliament, gave an interview this morning in which he discussed possible changes in the government, reports N1 on April 19, 2016.
Asked if it was possible there would be a reshuffle of the ruling majority in Parliament without MOST, Bandić said that he would not talk about MOST. “I support the idea that we have people in government who will roll up their sleeves and get to work. The government is experimenting, there are no results and something should be changed. If there is no progress, something will be done. The interest of Croatian citizens is to work, nothing else”, said Bandić.
“I would wait for a month or two, and then we will know more. I am a serious man; I have been the Mayor for 16 years. It is not easy to solve problems inherited from past governments. They should be given a chance, and then make a reshuffle within the coalition – you can be sure we are going to have enough votes in Parliament”, said Bandić.
He added that he did not advocate for the early parliamentary elections. “The Mayor has no great ambitions or demands. We are a solution – we have a parliamentary group which currently consists of five MPs, and soon we will have twice as many MPs. We also have a request and that is that people have to start working. I personally can only be a prime minister, but since we do not have enough votes, I cannot be that. We want to have people who can change this country”, added Bandić.
Asked about talks with HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko and Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, he did not give a specific answer, but said that he was ready to sit down “with all those who can demonstrate that they want to work”, because he considers himself to have enough experience not to repeat mistakes.
“I think that the government has not produced results in general, but I trust that it will. The cooperation is a strategic success; I hope we are not going to continue with the practice of the previous government, which in four years has not spoken once with the Mayor of Zagreb. You cannot act like that. You have to do it in the name of common sense, not because of Bandić or Orešković”, concluded Bandić.
