Ministry of Health confirms it will be available in two weeks in pill form only.
As confirmed by the Ministry of Health for Nova TV on April 23, 2016, medical marijuana will finally be available in Croatian pharmacies in two weeks time.
Many experts believe cannabis can relieve symptoms, but, of course, it cannot cure a person so medical marijuana will not be on HZZOs regular list, instead patients will have to pay for it in full. According to some unofficial reports, monthly therapy will cost between 1500 and 2000 kn.
“At the moment, we don’t expect medical marijuana to be added to the official HZZO list of subsidized medicinal products because it is used to treat symptoms” director of HZZO Tatjana Prenđa Trupec stated.
Medicinal marijuana products will be imported from Canada and it will be distributed by the Institute of Immunology in the form of capsules. “Two different strengths will be available and they will be dispensed only in pharmacies based on prescriptions written by the patient’s selected primary care doctor based on a recommendation from a specialist” dr. Romana Katalinić from the Ministry’s drug sector.
In Croatia, at the time being only patients suffering from MS, cancer, AIDS and children with a rare epileptic syndrome can get the prescription.

“Mi u ovom trenutku ne očekujemo da će on biti na listi zato što se radi o liječenju simptoma, a ne zapravo o lijeku u onom smislu u kojem su naši lijekovi na listi”, rekla je ravnateljica HZZO-a Tatjana Prenđa Trupec.
Uvoz iz Kanade
Pripravak će se uvoziti iz Kanade, a distribuirat će ga Imunološki zavod u obliku kapsula. “Bit će dostupni u dvije jačine i izdavat će se pacijentima isključivo u ljekarni na recept propisan od strane izabranog liječnika u primarnoj zdravstvenoj zaštiti temeljem preporuke liječnika specijalista”, rekla je za Dnevnik dr. Romana Katalinić iz Sektora za lijekove Ministarstva zdravlja.
U Hrvatskoj medicinski kanabis trenutačno mogu dobiti samo pacijenti koji boluju od multiple skleroze, karcinoma, AIDS-a te djeca oboljela od rijetkog epileptičkog sindroma.
