It might not be used to its full potential, partly because of insufficient involvement of the local authorities in creating a wider tourism area around the cave (infrastructure and supporting facilities) and partly because of its remote location (away from other tourist attractions of Inland Dalmatia).
However, much is being done in order to present the cave in the best possible light and to attract a large number of domestic and foreign tourists. Few days ago, the Dugopolje tourist board hosted their colleagues from the National tourist board, who decided to create their own promo-material about the Vranjača cave, which will undoubtedly contribute to the promotion of the cave at the national level. We are all eagerly awaiting this new promotional materials!
According to Tomislav Balić, the Director of the Dugopolje tourist board, there will be several events related to the Vranjača cave this year. This Saturday, May 21, 2016 in cooperation with the Dugopolje handball club, a handball camp for children will take place and gather 12 clubs from Dalmatia, 150 participants and at least as many guests are expected. All participants will get a ticket for a discounted price.
The spring cycling event, the Dugopolje cycling race got postponed twice due to bad weather, the new date is scheduled for Sunday, June 5, 2016. The Vranjača cave is included in the route as a resting point – 200 participants, who will be able to enter the cave with a discount that day. The newly built cycling route through the Dalmatian Hinterland is connecting Dugopolje with Kotlenice and Vranjača cave and continues to Omiš hinterlant and the Trilj area.
Another sporting and recreational event will promote the Vranjača cave this year – it will be the first Dugopolje Half Marathon to take place in September. This race, called “21 km of Inland Dalmatia” is included in the official calendar of the Croatian Athletics Federation and will gather marathon-runners from Croatia and neighbouring countries. As a part of the event, a short recreational race (5 km) and a race for children (1 km) are planned.
“We hope that these sporting and recreational events will contribute to the development of the sports tourism in Inland Dalmatia and promote active ways of spending a holiday in Dugopolje, which will have a positive impact on the Vranjača cave, a pearl of the natural heritage of the northern slopes of the Mosor mountain,” said the Dugopolje tourist board Director Tomislav Balić-
