Finance Minister Zdravko Marić could be the new Prime Minister.
After HDZ president and First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko yesterday evening said that the best solution would be for all three government leaders to resign (Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, MOST leader and Deputy Prime Minister Božo Petrov, and Karamarko himself), HDZ has announced that it has formed new parliamentary majority which will dismiss the Prime Minister and appoint a new one, which will come from HDZ but will not be Karamarko, reports Index.hr on June 9, 2016.
HDZ secretary general Domagoj Milošević gave the following statement this afternoon: “As we all know, in recent weeks this government has come to a dead end. We know how to get out of it. We expect that all three leaders will leave the government. We have agreed the coalition reshuffle. You will be informed about the details in due course. We are not going to give up on our motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Orešković. We are currently negotiating with everyone in Parliament who is aware of the fact that Croatia does not have time for any more delays. During our cooperation with MOST, we have often acted as if we and MOST were equal partners. But it has to come to an end, because HDZ is the largest party. We are aware of the responsibility of the situation we are in. We have enough MPs for the new parliamentary majority. Finance Minister Zdravko Marić has a great reputation and he is certainly one of the candidates for new Prime Minister”, said Milošević.
MOST leader and Deputy Prime Minister Božo Petrov is expected to give a public statement shortly.
HNS president Ivan Vrdoljak said that coalition reshuffle was out of question. “Karamarko must leave and we must have new elections”, said Vrdoljak. Italian minority MP Furio Radin said that he would not take part in any reshuffle and that the only option were new elections.
Serbian minority MP Milorad Pupovac said that reports that he and Radimir Čačić from Reformists would be new deputy prime ministers were spins and fabrications. He also said that new elections would be the best solution.
Pero Ćorić (HSP-AS) said that everything would be resolved within 74 hours. “There will be no new elections. We are here, there is a new parliamentary majority”, said Ćorić.
