The focus of Juvo – Home Friend app is the safety of children.
Juvo – Home Friend, the project of the Home Guardians team that won the Croatian finals of the Imagine Cup held in April, has entered the finals at the global level. The finals will take place in late July in Seattle. It is the largest and world’s most prestigious student competition, organized by Microsoft, in which participants develop innovative applications, computer games and solve community problems, reports Večernji List on June 13, 2016.
The semi-final competition included 158 teams, while only 35 of them have qualified for the finals. Six of the teams that are going to Seattle are from the region of Central and Eastern Europe. The Croatian team is made of two students, Matija Srbić and Marija Cestarić.
“In addition to competing for the grand prize, we hope that we will have an opportunity to meet many great professionals there, but also young, creative people who want to change the world for the better”, Srbić said.
The main task of the Juvo – Home Friend application is to care for the safety of children. The product belongs to the field of the Internet of Things, and it was developed with the help of the Raspberry Pi device that communicates with Microsoft Azure.
The development of the app was inspired by the fact that young children are not aware of all the dangers surrounding them, and a moment of carelessness can end in tragedy. The app, which through a sensor receives the information about the movement of children around the house and about them approaching dangerous objects, allows the parents, as the authors of Juvo pointed out, to relax and remain absolutely sure that nothing bad will happen to their children.
The competition in Seattle will take place 26 to 28 July, and the best team will win a prize of 50,000 US dollars.
