Happy Tax Freedom Day – Do You Know What it is?

Total Croatia News

The taxpayers association Lipa congratulated all workers the Tax Freedom Day on Friday. A worker with an average salary, married, with one child, from Zagreb, non-smoker, owning a car, works for the state 181 days a year, Lipa members counted

“Tax Freedom Day is the chronological day in a year when you stop working for the state and its institutions – those everyone needs (education, health), but also the numerous and questionable agencies, institutes, establishments and their subsidies, incentives, support and fees. In Croatia, a worker with an average income can celebrate this day on July 1st,” the association reported, published by Tportal.hr on July 1, 2016.

The total tax burden on workers with an average income in Croatia is over 50%. This means the average Croatian taxpayer works over half a year for the state, which hasn’t changed in relation to 2015, Lipa notes.

The association is calling on citizens to mark Tax Freedom Day on social networks by sharing the hashtag #ManjiPorezi (smaller taxes) and point to the problem of excessive tax burden of citizens in Croatia.
