Sandra & Tino

After years of covers, Sandra & Tino turn to Dalmatian pop with “Ne budi me” (Don’t wake me)

If you visited Split in the last few years, you probably had the chance to listen to Sandra & Tino, a multi talented duo that’s been entertaining residents of some of the most popular hangouts in Split for a while now. Known for their melodic covers and Sandra’s fantastic voice, it was just a matter of time before they released their own original work. Their fist single “Ne budi me” is now officially out along with a video clip.

I caught up with Tino, in the deep shade of course, and this is what he had to say about their big entrance into the Croatian music scene.

You’ve decided to move away from your usual sound and opted for true Dalmatian pop. It’s quite a drastic change, why?

Well, we’ve been playing covers for yes so with our first single we wanted to do something different and introduce ourselves to a very broad audience. It’s summer, atmosphere is laid back and we through a pop ballad would be very suitable. Sandra can sing almost anything and we were both pleasantly surprised with the final result, the song was a perfect fit for her.

You wrote the music for “Ne budi me”, who else worked on the song?

Alen Dešić wrote the lyrics and I must say after I read them, the music just sort of came out. Single is produced by Croatia’s renowned pop producer Nenad Šiškov. But we didn’t just stop there, we really wanted to do everything right so we even shot a video clip, directed by Matko Petrić and it’s been out for few days. I’m still trying to get used to watching myself on screen but I’ll get there.

Does this mean that we won’t be able to see you play at Peristil and all other places where you usually perform?

Absolutely not. We are still playing at Peristil every week, there’s Paradox as well but we’re also travelling along the coast this summer with our entire band. We might have released this single but we will still stay true to the style and performances you’ve all grown accustomed to.

Next single, album, perhaps a festival performance or two?

Well, you never know. But let’s take it one step at a time and see where it takes us.
