Croatian javelin thrower staged a miracle in Rio
We mentioned yesterday that Sara Kolak would be the contender for the medal if she performs at her best, but to be honest, we did not even dream that her best will be so good. She set the new Croatian record at 66.18 meters, and she won the Olympic gold medal in Rio.
Of course, her path to the gold was not a simple one, as she was trailing the competition in first three series, and it looked like she will have to be satisfied with even getting to the finals, but, as she said after the win, she was not to be content with just participating in the finals, she was aiming for a medal.
And she got it in the fourth series. Her attempt landed far enough for the spectators at Maracana Stadium to see it and stage ovations. No other athlete managed to beat that throw in the last two series, and Sara was ready to celebrate.
All she needed was a Croatian flag, and the one to give it to her was no one else, but another Olympic Champion, Sandra Perković.
She will be presented the medal today, and when she realized that she has to wait one night to get the medal, she laughed and said: “Ugh, I can’t wait for tomorrow.”
