Dinamo finally beat Salzburg and qualified for the group stage of the Champions League
It was a tough task for Dinamo on August 24. 2016 in Salzburg. They traveled to Austria to face the team they never managed to beat, and after the first leg, the Austrians had the winning score due to the away goal scored in Zagreb. And in the 22nd minute of the last night’s second leg, it became even the tougher task, as the home team got the lead after the great run by Lazaro.
Dinamo players did not play good in the first half, and it is only the goalkeeper Eduardo to be thanked that the lead was not bigger after the first half. The Salzburg team kept on pressuring the guests, and it seemed there would be no Champions League matches this year in Maksimir.
Zlatko Kranjčar made a decisive move seven minutes before the end, as he sent Gordon Schildenfeld, the national team full-back to play in the attack. And it was him who set up the goal scored by Junior Fernandes just four minutes later.
The match went to the extra-time, and Dinamo managed to get the lead when Soudani scored in the fifth minute. The home team needed two goals to get the win at that moment, and Dinamo players had their hands in the air when the final whistle was blown.
