HDZ holds the final rally of the campaign in Zagreb.
On Thursday evening, HDZ held the final pre-election rally in Zagreb. HDZ president Andrej Plenković urged citizens to support their programme, telling them that after the parliamentary elections on Sunday there will be no political experiments, reports Večernji List on September 9, 2016.
“The results of parliamentary elections last year were such that HDZ, because of the insistence of smaller partners, tried some political experiments. As HDZ president I can guarantee that there will be no experiments after Sunday”, said Plenković at the final campaign event. He expressed confidence that voters on Sunday will not give their votes to smaller parties that will certainly not pass the threshold. “I am also sure that people will think twice whether to give their vote to those who pretend to be moral and political arbiters of the political arena. They will also think carefully about whether to give their vote to those who want to have more influence than the number of votes they receive give them right to have”, he noted.
He asked voters to support HDZ’s manifesto which has the goal of increasing economic growth to five percent by 2020, implement tax reform that will leave more money to citizens, decrease tax burden for entrepreneurs, and achieve an increase in pensions of five percent.
Davor Ivo Stier, a candidate in the seventh constituency, spoked against the policies of discord led by SDP president Zoran Milanović. “Andrej Plenković wants to change it, together with a new generation of credible people. We have made changes in HDZ, and we shall change the whole of Croatia as well”, he said. “We have heard the same arrogance that Milanović thinks can hide his incompetence”, said Stier.
Pointing out that Zagreb has never been nor will ever be “red”, a candidate in the second parliamentary constituency Andrija Mikulić also spoke against the leaders of the People’s Coalition . “We have had enough of people like these who try to hide their arrogance and lack of education by dressing in nice suits”, he said and urged voters in Zagreb to “make blue” all four constituencies which include parts of Zagreb.
Darinko Kosor, the president of HSLS who has its candidates on HDZ’s candidate lists in several constituencies, said that modern Europe had been built on the cooperation between people’s parties and liberals. “Nowhere in Europe is there cooperation between socialists and liberals, and Croatia will not be an exception as long as I am the president of HSLS”, he noted.
The rally was also addressed by long-time member of European Parliament Doris Pack and President of the European People’s Party Joseph Daul who said that Croatia needed a leader who was competent, worthy of respect, and who had demonstrated the capacity to achieve results in the interest of Croats, and that person is Andrej Plenković.
