Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence and Frontex will organize a demonstration of border protection activities.
On Monday and Tuesday, Split will host a meeting and demonstration of sea border protection activities called “Securing Europe’s External Borders: European Border and Coast Guard”. The demonstration will be organized by the Interior Ministry, together with the Defence Ministry and the European Agency for Border and Coast Guard (Frontex), reports 24sata.hr on October 9, 2016.
The demonstration will take place on Tuesday, at the Lora navy base, with two scenarios –a vessel transporting illegal migrants, and a vessel under the threat of a terrorist attack. The demonstration will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defence, and representatives of EU member states and neighbouring countries.
The exercise with a vessel carrying illegal migrants will demonstrate how the Ministry of Interior, in coordination with other government bodies, would act if it were to discover a large number of illegal migrants at sea. The exercise with a vessel under the threat of a terrorist attack will demonstrate how the National Strategy for Prevention and Suppression of Terrorism defines the general framework of action in the fight against terrorism in Croatia.
Fabrice Leggeri, the executive director of the Agency, said a few days ago that the start of operations of the European Border and Coast Guard was “a major step forward for protecting Europe’s borders”. With regard to the demonstration in Split, he thanked the Interior Ministry on the invitation to organize the demonstration in Croatia, noting that it was important to launch coast guard because it would enable integrated management and control of the borders with other agencies.
