The airport is scheduled to reopen on 10 March.
Major reconstruction of runway at the Pula Airport, which is expected to be completed by mid-March, will start on Monday, reports Večernji List on January 15, 2017.
“Pula Airport will be closed for all traffic starting from 16 January at 7 am, after the flight for Zagreb takes off,” said Svemir Radmilo, the director of the airport in Pula, who added that by 10 March “the runway will be fully reconstructed, in its full length and width”.
“We will put two new layers on the runway, and we will also make preparations for the installation of lighting of the runway centre line. We will perform a reconstruction of vertical signalling equipment as well”, said Radmilo, adding that the reopening of the Pula Airport for traffic is expected on 10 March at 6 pm.
The runaway will be reconstructed a year after the reconstruction works on the airport terminal building for passengers were completed. The reconstruction of the runway, the first after 44 years, will cost about 24.5 million kuna. The contractor is the Cesta company from Pula, which was awarded the contract by public tender. The supervision of the works and the tarmac quality will be performed by a company from Zagreb.
Overall, the runway will be covered with about 133,500 square metres of asphalt about four inches thick, which will require about 35,000 tons of asphalt.
