The National Association of Counties (Hrvatska zajednica županija) has made the budgets of all counties available to the public via an interactive map.
This way, you can see how taxpayers’ money is being spent in just a few clicks.
This is undoubtedly an important step in improving transparency. The National Association of Counties’ spokesperson said that cooperation and dialogue on a regional level are of vital importance, and that it has to be driven by the desire to improve the citizens’ wellbeing, not by the political orientation of members of the executive authority.
The aim of the Open Budget (Otvoreni proračun) project is twofold.
One is to offer an open and visual representation of county budgets via a simple application.
The other is to enable the county administration to compare local and regional budgets, as well as economic factors, on all levels. This encourages competitiveness and improves the productivity and efficiency of each county’s administration.
This is the first time that a self-government level has had a unified insight into its activities, which is a big step towards transparency.
