Sinj, a town in the continental part of Split-Dalmatia County which is famous for its unique Sinjska Alka traditions, has taken the title of the safest town in Croatia for the third year running. Pozega took second place, followed closely by Djakovo, Vukovar and Samobor, all of which are inland towns in the possession of relatively handsome populations.
The findings come as the results from the latest analysis of the safety and security of Croatian towns conducted with collaboration from the Insistute of Economics in the Croatian capital of Zagreb, writes Zastita on the 17th of March 2017.
The research took into account violent crime such as murder, rape and GBH, as well as property offences, traffic crime and the frequency of narcotic and substance abuse. The analysis included Croatian cities which have above 20,000 inhabitants, meaning 29 towns in Croatia were the subject of the study. Statistics from the Ministry of the Interior were forwarded to the Institute of Economics in Zagreb where the scale of the safest Croatian towns was made. Comparison of the incidence of crime and calculating the crime rate is used as a statistical indicator of the effectiveness of crime prevention measures and the relative safety of a city, but it should be noted that the usual practice is that the statistical indicator is the number of crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, but given that only four Croatian cities have more than 100,000 inhabitants, it was a logical decision that the same method was used per 1000 inhabitants as opposed to 100,000.
