The good news is that the new prices will probably be valid just until July. The bad news is that they will then increase even further.
Starting on Monday at 6 am, the new, 5% higher prices will take effect on motorways managed by Croatian Motorways (HAC) public company, reports Index.hr on April 2, 2017.
The increases in tolls are part of the business and financial restructuring of the road sector, whose total debt exceeds 5.2 billion euros. Public companies which manage state roads and motorways (HAC, Croatian Roads, and Rijeka-Zagreb Motorway), have to repay 7.8 billion kuna this year, 8.2 billion kuna in 2018, and 9 billion kuna in 2019.
On 1 July, tolls on all motorways managed by the state-owned concessionaires should increase by another 10 percent. That additional increase would be valid just for the peak tourist season, until 30 September. It is also expected that discounts for users of electronic toll collection (ENC) system will be reduced, but that will not happen this year.
The increase in tolls will be valid for the following motorways : A1 Zagreb – Split – Dubrovnik; A3 Bregana – Zagreb – Lipovac; A4 Zagreb – Goričan; A5 Beli Manastir – Osijek – Svilaj; A10 border with Bosnia and Herzegovina – Ploče; A11 Zagreb – Sisak.
According to the new price list, passenger vehicles on the A1 motorway from Zagreb to Zadar (Zadar 1) will pay 121 kuna instead of 117 kuna, to Split (Dugopolje) 181 kuna instead of 174 kuna, and to Čarapine near Ploče 232 kuna instead of 223 kuna.
On the A3 motorway, tolls from Zagreb to Bregana will be 7 kuna instead of 6 kuna, to Slavonski Brod (West) 82 kuna instead of 77 kuna, to Osijek 122 kuna instead of 116 kuna, and to Lipovac near the Serbian border 128 kuna instead of 122 kuna.
On the A4 motorway, tolls for passenger cars from Sveta Helena to Breznički Hum will remain at 16 kuna, to Novi Marof will increase from 20 to 21 kuna, to Varaždin from 27 kuna to 28 kuna, and to Goričan from 42 kuna to 44 kuna.
The increase in tolls for trucks will be more substantial. For example, the tolls on the motorways from Zagreb to Zadar will be increased by 14 kuna – from 418 kuna to 432 kuna, to Dugopolje from 607 to 631 kuna, and to Čarapine from 768 kuna to 800 kuna.
