With the summer tourist season approaching, the number of employed persons in Croatia is rising.
At the end of March, there were 1.33 million employed persons in Croatia, which was 0.3 percent or almost 4,300 persons more than a month earlier, the first growth in employment after six months of decline, according to the data published by the Central Bureau of Statistics, reports 24sata.hr on April 29, 2017.
The report shows that at the end of March there were 1,331,343 employed persons in Croatia.
The first growth in employment after six months is in line with regular seasonal trends, given that employment usually begins to grow in the spring months and falls in late summer after the main tourist season ends.
The largest share in the total number of employees were employees in businesses, of which there were 1.12 million, or 0.2 percent more than a month earlier. At the end of March, there were 181,777 people employed in sole proprietorships and independent trades, or 1.1 percent more than at the end of February. There were 19,644 independent farmers, which was almost the same level as the month before.
Among the 19 groups within by the National Classification of Employment, the number of employees in businesses fell in 16 groups. It grew in administrative and auxiliary services by 0.9 percent, in education by 0.6 percent, and in supply of water, sewage, waste management and remediation activities by 0.4 percent.
At the same time, the number of employees fell the most in mining and quarrying by 9 percent, and in the real estate sector by 5 percent.
In the manufacturing industry, which employs the largest number of persons, with 202,800 employees, the number of employees decreased in March by 1.8 percent compared to the same month last year.
According to the data from the Croatian Employment Service, the number of unemployed at the end of March stood at 224,068, which was 14,866 persons or 6.2 percent less than the previous month.
Therefore, the unemployment rate in March dropped to 14.4 percent, down from 15.3 percent in February.
