Podbrežje residential settlement will contain social housing apartments, apartments for junior researchers and assistants at Zagreb University, and apartments for young families.
Zagreb mayor Milan Bandić has laid the foundation stone for the construction of Podbrežje residential settlement in Novi Zagreb, which will comprise 1,800 apartments in 11 buildings, as well as public amenities. The City of Zagreb and Zagreb Holding are in charge of the project, which will follow the Zagreb housing construction plan, meaning that apartments will be more affordable.
“This marks the first phase of construction works, which includes the construction of 608 apartments for Zagreb citizens – 200 social housing apartments, 200 apartments for public rent and 208 for junior researchers and research assistants at Zagreb University. The City will subsidize an interest rate of 2% for researchers and assistants,” Mayor Bandić pointed out, adding that this is a big day for educated young people who will be able to fulfil their professional and scientific potential here in Zagreb – for themselves, their families, their city and their country.
“This is a carefully planned project, a city within a city, one might say,” the Mayor added, thanking those who were in charge of designing and creating the project and who will be involved in its implementation – Zagreb Holding Management Board chairwoman Ana Stojić Deban, Zagreb University and the contractors.
Ms. Ana Stojić Deban said that 230 million HRK has been allocated for the first phase of the project, which includes the construction of 608 apartments (to be completed by the end of 2017), a kindergarten, elementary school, cultural centre and health centre. The project should be finished by the end of 2019.
