“Zagreb je naš” coalition (Zagreb Is Ours) has the support of the former Greek Finance Minister.
The left-wing “Zagreb je naš” coalition (Zagreb Is Ours), which is made up of the New Left Party, ORaH, the Workers’ Front, and the For the City Initiative, has announced that it has received the support of the European Green Party, which took into account their positive efforts to strengthen their local self-government system, as well as their programmes of urban planning and communal services management, reports tportal.hr on May 18, 2017.
“If you want greener traffic, greener public spaces, if you want a more accessible city for people who live in it, then Zagreb is Ours is your choice” stated a video message from the co-chair of the Green Caucus and Member of European Parliament, Ska Keller, according to the coalition.
Additionally, the coalition has received support for the upcoming local elections in Zagreb from members of the Diem 25 international democratisation movement for Europe, whose founder is former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, as well as from the United Left coalition from Slovenia.
In a video message, Varoufakis points about that the programme of the coalition for local elections in Zagreb is fully in line with the goals of Diem 25, in particular regarding citizen involvement in decision-making processes and public service protection, whereas United Left has welcomed the establishment of a broad political platform in Zagreb which is based on the principles of sustainable development, social justice and equality, and active involvement of citizens in decision-making processes about the development of the city, announced the coalition.
As for Croatia, the coalition is supported by singer Mile Kekin and theatre and film director Mario Kovač.
Zagreb Is Ours points out that they presented their manifesto to the public at the end of February, and that the platform has since been joined by numerous activists, scientists, artists, social entrepreneurs and others.
