Artist and captain Stjepko Mamić has two paintings featured at the international exhibition in Italy
Stjepko Mamić, a former sea captain and an artist from Dubrovnik, made his debut in Venice with two of his paintings getting featured at the exhibition Pro Biennale 2017, organised in collaboration with the 57th international art exhibition La Biennale di Venezia.
The ceremonial vernissage was held on 8 May at two locations in the centre of Venice: in a cloister of the renaissance church San Francesco della Vigna and the Palace Grifalconi Loredan. A large number of prominent guests attended the opening, showing support for the exhibition curated by professor Vittorio Sgarbi, a renowned art expert on the Italian and the international art scene.
Two of Mamić’s works were selected for Pro Biennale: Android Fishes and Nautilus, both made in mixed media technique and measuring a metre in width. The paintings are on display at a central position in San Francesco della Vigna, their vivid colours and applied gold foil attracting the attention of spectators.
This is not the first time Mamić is showing his work in Italy: in 2016, his paintings were put on permanent display in Rosso Cinabro Gallery in Rome. The gallery is currently housing an exhibition titled Sguardi Contemporanei (Contemporary Views) curated by Joe Hansen and Cristina Maldini, that is also featuring three paintings made by the artist from Dubrovnik. In 2017, he’ll also show his work at three locations in France (Cannes, Giverny and Paris), as well as in the Biblioteca Angelica Gallery in Rome.
