Happy Zagreb County Day!
Zagreb County, sometimes referred to as Zagreb Ring because it encircles the City of Zagreb from the west, north, and east, is a county located in a 3,078 m2 area in north-western Croatia. The County is geographically diverse – hills in the west, and lowlands in the south and east.
It was founded as Comitatus Zagrabiensis on July 17, 1759, when Queen Maria Theresa gave it a coat of arms and a signet ring. The County encompassed an area from Zagorje to Križevci, Sisak, Karlovac, Gorski Kotar, to the coast. The territory changed over time and the County’s current area has existed since January 1, 1997.

There are nine cities and 25 municipalities within the County and because it’s Zagreb County Day, this is a perfect day to remind you to visit some of the wonderful landmarks some of which are less than an hour away from Zagreb. The County is full of gorgeous scenery, archaeological sites, vineyards, castles, unique sacral architecture, and delicious food, so, get your maps ready and go explore.
