Gone are the good old days of maritime anarchy and bypassing regulations.
The Port Authority Split isn’t planning to let anyone off the hook anymore. They carried out an action of reinforced supervision of maritime traffic, in cooperation with their subdivisions in Omiš, Baška Voda, Makarska, Podgora, Igrane Milna, Bol, Jelsa, Hvar, Šolta, Pakleni islands, Trogir, Krknjaši and Maslinica.
The action – code name ‘Safe Sailing 2017’ – was carried out on August 2, reports Morski.hr. The officers of Port Authority Split and its branch departments performed 62 inspections between 10:00 and 19:00, including 4 ships, 41 local yachts, and 17 foreign flags. They reported a total of 31 maritime offences and penalised offenders with fines that summed up to 39.886 kuna.
Most of the culprits were fined for speeding too close to the shore, and one fine was imposed for speeding in port waters. There were 17 penalties for overloading boats with passengers, and 3 for not meeting the minimum required number of crew members. Two people were fined for not having the required paperwork on board.
The Port Authority Split will continue to carry out similar actions during the tourist season, mostly in order to prevent maritime accidents and penalise those who don’t follow legal regulations.
