The tourism year is set to be a record-breaking one.
In November, 312,000 tourists visited Croatia, which was eight percent more than in the same month last year. At the same time, the number of overnight stays increased by 13 percent to 891,000, the Ministry of Tourism announced on Tuesday, reports N1 on December 5, 2017.
The eVisitor data system, which monitors the tourism statistics realized in commercial and non-commercial accommodation facilities and in the nautical charter, shows that 18.2 million tourist arrivals were recorded in the first eleven months of this year, which was 13 percent more than in the same period last year, while the number of overnight stays grew by 12 percent to 101.2 million.
“There is a great deal of interest for the Croatian tourist offer, including outside of the main summer months. It is up to us to develop our tourist offer and create all the necessary preconditions for the arrival of even more tourists in the preseason and postseason. In this context, the introduction of new regular flights from international destinations is of great importance,” said the Croatian National Tourist Board director Kristjan Staničić in a statement.
Out of the total number of arrivals and overnight stays in November, foreign tourists realised 198,000 arrivals, or nine percent more than a year ago, and 531,000 overnight stays, an increase of three percent. The number of Croatian tourists also increased.
In November, the largest number of overnight stays was recorded in Zagreb (148,000), followed by Zadar County (137,000), Kvarner (129,000) and Istria (115,000).
“The excellent results during this year’s preseason and postseason are the best indicators that Croatia is becoming a year-round tourist destination. In addition to the best European advent festival in Zagreb, a number of other destinations throughout Croatia are also expected to organise interesting and varied programmes. I am sure that this year will be concluded with double-digit growth in tourist numbers,” said Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli.
