Strong winds will bring sand from the Sahara to Europe.
Large quantities of the Sahara sand carried by southern winds will reach the Mediterranean, Western and Central Europe over the next few days. Croatia is one of the countries which will be hit, reports Index.hr on January 8, 2018.
According to the Severe Weather Service, the wind will bring a wave of warm air from the north of Africa, but also the sand from the Sahara desert.
According to the latest model released, large quantities of the Sahara sand will reach the western Mediterranean, especially the area between the Balearic Islands and Corsica and Sardinia, as well as France and the Iberian Peninsula.
On Monday evening, the sand will cross Italy and reach Switzerland, parts of France and the Benelux countries, and then continue to move towards the United Kingdom. By the middle of the week, it will reach southern Scandinavia.
On the maps published by Severe Weather, it can be seen that the sand will also reach Croatia.
