ZAGREB, April 10, 2018 – The U.S. Embassy in Zagreb on Monday condemned an extreme right rally held in Zagreb on Sunday and the links to President Donald Trump, whom Croatia’s right wing considers a model in running state-building policies.
“The U.S. Embassy again condemns neo-Nazi and pro-Ustasha views expressed during the demonstration of a few people in Zagreb yesterday,” the embassy said on Twitter.
“We condemn any attempt to link the United States to this hateful ideology. Such a suggestion is an affront to the memories of the 186,000 U.S. soldiers who died in Europe fighting Nazi Germany and the many millions of innocent victims killed during World War II,” the embassy said.
About 40 members of the right-wing Autochthonous Croatian Party of Rights (AHSP) and its armed wing the Croatian Patriotic Forces Club lined up in Zagreb’s main square Trg Bana Jelačića on Sunday, swearing allegiance to the country and expressing support for President Trump, praising the way he is defending the interests of his country.
