A relatively happy and deserving ending to the infuriating story of the poor treatment of one of Croatia’s top neurosurgeons, Josip Paladino.
As we reported quite recently, one of Croatia’s top neurosurgeons found himself in a rather undesirable situation when KBC Rebro in Zagreb shamefully no longer saw fit for him to continue practicing following his entrance into retirement, and despite his personal wish to continue working in the field to which he’s dedicated his life, in spite of that fact.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 17th of April, 2018, the talented Prof. dr. sc. Josip Paladino, one of the most prominent, highly respected Croatian neurosurgeons, is now a permanent member of the professional team of Radiochirurgia Zagreb, a polyclinic in Sveta Nedelja which deals with the diagnosis and the subsequent treatment of cancer.
Paladino’s field of work will be radiosurgery of the brain and the spine.
As previously touched on, Josip Paladino is one of the most prominent Croatian neurosurgeons and is also a well respected professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb, he has a wealth of truly invaluable experience in the complicated field of stereotactic radiosurgery, stretching over 14 long years.
Among other things, he is also a member of the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences, the Croatian Neurosurgical Society (president), the Croatian Neurological Society, the Anthropological Society, the World Association of Neurosurgeons (WFNS), the European Association of Neurosurgeons (EANS), the Royal Society of Medicine, and, last but by no means least, the American Congress of Neurosurgeons.
Since the year 2002, Paladino been the head of the Functional Neurosurgery Project and has contributed enormously to the continued development of pituitary area surgery, elaborated his own minimally invasive approach to very delicate skull surgery and done many other priceless things in the field of medicine.
To quickly recall, Zagreb’s KBC Rebro teminated Paladino’s contract due to his age. Paladino is 68 years old, and for the past year and a half, following his entrance into retirement, he worked part-time at Rebro.
The decision of the hospital administration caused a series of extremely angry and negative reactions in both the media, and the public. Despite the highly uncomfortable situation Paladino found himself dragged into, through absolutely no fault of his own, he has found a new job in almost record time. It was published not long after the end of his time at Rebro that he was to continue working at St. Catherine’s Special Hospital, however, now he will work exclusively with the Sveta Nedelja based polyclinic.
