ZAGREB, April 29, 2018 – The Croatian National Protection and Rescue Directorate (DUZS) has won the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) 112 Award in the category “Best International Cooperation”, and the award was presented to its officials in Ljubljana.
This year, the EENA decided to emphasise the excellent cooperation of national institutions in last year’s operations to put out wildfires, and in the Best International Cooperation category it awarded the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) and the relevant national institutions that stood out in terms of cooperation in information exchange.
The ERCC operates within the European Commission’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations department and was set up to support a coordinated and quicker response to disasters both inside and outside Europe using resources from the countries participating in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
The DUZS is the contact point in Croatia that actively participates in the exchange of information with other member countries through the ERCC.
The ERCC currently covers all 28 EU member states, as well as Iceland, Montenegro, Norway, Macedonia, Turkey and Serbia.
