Three exceptional wines by Laguna from Istria won medals at this year’s international competition in the US
Vina Laguna, the biggest wine producer in Istria, is the only Croatian winery to have won medals at this year’s Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. Laguna wines were awarded one gold medal and two silver medals, reports Glas Istre on May 11, 2018.
In a competition of 3000 wine samples submitted by producers from 16 countries all around the globe, it was Laguna’s Terra Rossa 2016 that blew away the panel of judges. The jury stated that the fresh wine with a rich fruity aroma has an exceptional quality and offers great value for money. Terra Tossa was awarded a gold medal in the category of Red blends, having faced competition including wines that are priced much higher than the Istrian champion.
Apart from Terra Rossa, two other wines produced by Laguna captured the judges’ attention: two silver medals went to Malvazia Istarska (Vina Laguna Festigia, 2017) and Castello (Vina Istria Festigia, 2015).
This international award is only the latest in line to speak of the outstanding quality of Terra Rossa. Last year, the renowned wine magazine Decanter included Laguna’s gem on the list of top 25 red wines for everyday summer enjoyment that are priced under ₤25. Terra Rossa was the only Croatian wine to have made its way onto the list; Decanter sommelier Christelle Guibert described it as an exceptionally complex wine for its price.
