Korčula is a beautiful island and offers some outstanding beaches, both on Korčula itself and the sprinkling of idyllic islets close by.
Modern life is sadly evident more and more in the sea these days, and it is a constant battle to control the amount of rubbish and plastic which can be found.
It is a battle the people of Korčula are determined to fight and win, and tomorrow morning will see at least 80 volunteers taking part in the latest beach cleaning effort from 08:00.
The local association Ekološko-ronilački klub, with the support of the Korčula Tourist Board as well, has organised one of several submarine cleaning and beach cleaning efforts in “Škoji”(Korčula archipelago islets) and Korčula Town area beaches. They will be joined by members of the Oreb sailing club and many others, with a two-fold aim of cleaning the sea and educating the population as well.
