ZAGREB, July 5, 2018 – The Croatia Airlines management on Wednesday said that, considering the official announcement of a strike action by the ORCA union, it has adopted essential measures to buffer any possible detrimental consequences and among other things has decided to cancel all annual leave approved for July and August, and that pays and all the relevant contributions on salaries would be proportionally reduced for those workers participating in the strike.
The airline’s management called on unionists to continue negotiations on the collective agreement on Thursday.
The ORCA union on Tuesday announced that workers would go on strike because the union’s proposed collective agreement was rejected and the strike is set to start on July 9 at 6 am and will continue until union demands are met.
Croatia Airlines said in a press release on Wednesday that considering ORCA’s decision on the strike, management “has been forced to take urgent measures to buffer any possible detrimental consequences.”
“Because of the current situation and damage that the strike will undoubtedly cause to passengers and Croatia’s overall tourism and economy, a decision has been made that, as of the day that the strike begins, all workers will have their approved annual leave during July and August cancelled and specific decisions of delegating duties in crisis situations will be issued directly by workers’ superiors,” the airline said.
The management further announced that wages for July and the period that follows will not be paid based on the former collective agreement but based on the rules of procedure and striking workers’ pays will be reduced accordingly as prescribed by the Labour Act.
