A new idea which has the potential to alter traffic in the capital.
Zagreb’s city administration thought up this new idea, which will link multiple locations through Zagreb’s Dr. Franjo Tuđman park.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 3rd of August, 2018, and according to a study by the Faculty of Transport, two tunnels will be created below the park itself, which will enable vehicles to move from west to east, which will completely change the traffic regulation for the city around the park itself.
As far as the tunnels themselves are concerned, or, as they’re being referred to by the city administration, the “underground pipes”, neither will even be one kilometre long, with the longest drive on the one that connects Ulica Grada Mainza with Jagićeva Ulica, Vecernji list writes.
”The length of the underground part would be about 393 metres, the entrance ramp would be 107 metres long, and the exit ramp 90 metres long. The total length of the underground connection itself would be about 590 metres,” they explained from Zagreb’s city administration, adding that the width of the tunnel pipes would be seven metres in total, with six metres occupying two traffic lanes.
For the second underground pipe, the same entrance gate would be used for the entrance of Gjuro Deželić from Ulica Grada Mainza, but the tunnel would be separated just below the Square of the French Republic (Trg Francuske Republike).
The length of the other tunnel with ramps would be about 340 metres, with a total width of six metres, containing one lane. The plans for the construction of a garage, which was initially mentioned two years ago, should boast 400 parking spaces, and for these two jobs, the City of Zagreb is searching for a company that will produce the required project-technical documentation for 400,000 kuna. The main condition, of course, is that it the project adheres to and works according to the traffic study guidelines carried out by the aforementioned faculty.
