Just after 10:00 this morning, a meeting of Uljanik’s management and the strike board began.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 22nd of August, 2018, about 4,500 workers from the burdened Uljanik Group have been striking this morning in response to their unpaid wages for the month of July.
The strike has so far seen 2,800 Uljanik workers and 1,700 workers from the 3.Maj shipyard join. The shipyard employees have occupied themselves at their work places and are seeking the payment of their salaries.
The workers arrived early this morning before entering the shipyard, shouting for Uljanik’s management to step down.
All the strikers have agreed that, as they say, the incapable administration is responsible for Uljanik’s ever-worsening issues. They claim that the administration merely sits and waits for the money from restructuring to arrive, and that nothing is ever done afterwards.
As one of the workers said, ”They don’t do anything, they drink coffee and juice”, adding that ”they don’t have kids to feed”. As N1 reported earlier, the workers had taken to the streets, standing and blocking the traffic. Everything was being closely monitored by the police.
”People are striking because nobody trusts this administration, we’re asking for somebody capable to come [and take over],” one of the workers said, which was then transmitted by N1.
”None of them [Uljanik administration] thinks about how we’re meant to send our kids to school. Let the children explain why they don’t have food on their table,” one frustrated employee added.
According to unofficial information, Uljanik’s director allegedly promised some workers that their pay would finally arrive on Friday, this never occurred. In their statements, the competent unions have that the strike will be suspended only after the workers are paid.
