ZAGREB, September 8, 2018 – President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović visited on Friday the Anti-Terrorist Unit Lučko (ATJ Lučko) and said that its development is strategically important for Croatia’s security and the safety of all citizens.

Grabar-Kitarović visited ATJ Lučko ahead of the eve of its 28th anniversary and paid tribute at the memorial to the members of the unit who were killed.

“During her meeting with the commanders and members of ATJ Lučko, President Grabar-Kitarović discussed the Anti-Terrorist Unit’s role and their competences for a quick, timely and effective response in various unpredictable situations on land, on water and in the skies. Expressing her conviction that ATJ Lučko members are prepared to accept every potential challenge, President Grabar-Kitarović stated that international terrorism and other real or potential threats demand that every serious state develops units that can act in circumstances requiring quick and forceful police reactions,” a statement from the president’s office read.

During her visit, the president underlined that the existence of such a unit in itself is an element of prevention against potential threats, and said that its development is of strategic importance for the security of Croatia and the safety of all residents, the statement said.

Congratulating ATJ Lučko members on the 28th anniversary of their establishment, the president wished them much success in carrying out all future tasks in the hope that the need for such tasks will be minimal, said the statement.
