According to Ferata.hr, the annual carnival parades of the villages around Sinj are on a list of the protected intangible cultural heritage of Croatia.
The Carnival parade is arranged by strict rules, based on tradition. The most interesting part of the parade are the “didi” (grandpas). They are parading according to strict rules, demonstrating strength, endurance and preservation of native traditions. They are wearing a 1,5 m long sheepskin and a waist bell, their old clothes are sewn with multicoloured ending.
Similar carnival traditions exist in other parts of Croatia and Europe and they embody the ritual fight of the good spirits with winter by making noise and jumping.
As we already announced, there will be 20 groups from all of the Cetina area and the noisy and colorful invasion will depart from the football pitch at 15.00 through Put Šumarije – Put Piketa – Miljenka Buljana Street to the bus station – Put Ferate – Kneza Branimira Street – Brnaška street to the Square of Kralja Tomislava. The main event at the pjaca should start at 15.30 and last until 18.00. Afterwards an entertainment program at the formere barracks Ivan Ivaniša Nelipića (19.00 – 24.00).
All welcome. Enjoy the 2nd Sinj Carnival Festival.
